Vesper Energy Cuts Ribbon on Hornet Solar, One of the Largest Single-Phase Solar Projects in the U.S.

Vesper Energy Celebrates Launch of Hornet Solar Project

Vesper Energy held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 10, 2025, to commemorate the commencement of its flagship solar energy initiative, Hornet Solar. This event signifies a key achievement not only for Vesper Energy but also positions Texas as a prominent player in the solar energy sector on a national scale.

Hornet Solar: A Significant Energy Installation

The Hornet Solar project features over 1.36 million solar panels and covers more than six square miles in Swisher County, Texas—making it one of the largest solar facilities in the United States. The installation is expected to generate over $100 million in new tax revenues for Swisher County while producing 600 MWac of energy.

Commitment to Affordable and Secure Energy

“Hornet Solar illustrates how large-scale energy ventures can provide dependable, domestically produced power for American households and businesses,” remarked Juan Suarez, Co-CEO of Vesper Energy. “This initiative transcends beyond just solar technology; it aims to reduce energy costs and bolster our national energy security. With Hornet Solar now operational, we are supplying the community with locally generated electricity, ensuring that both businesses and residents have the energy resources essential for growth and success.”

Event Highlights and Community Engagement

The ceremony also featured guided tours of the facility, speeches from Vesper executives, and opportunities for networking. Notable attendees included Michael Clawson, Swisher County Judge, Elsa Carrasco, Swisher County Justice of the Peace, Mike Sims, Swisher County Commissioner for Precinct 2, and Mark Stover, Executive Director of the Texas Solar and Storage Association, alongside Vesper employees, landowners, and local community members.

Progress and Achievements of Hornet Solar

Vesper Energy commenced construction on Hornet Solar in the autumn of 2023 and successfully secured $590 million in financing to propel the project forward in January 2024. Since then, the project has reached significant milestones, such as the installation of its millionth solar panel in December 2024 and the completion of the last panel in January 2025. “The scale of Hornet Solar is impressive—1.36 million panels across over six square miles, with a capacity of 600 MW. However, the true benefit lies in what this project brings to Swisher County: over $100 million in new tax revenue and substantial investments in local schools, infrastructure, and healthcare,” stated Zach Wald, Vice President of EPC.

Economic Impact on the Local Community

Hornet Solar is poised to deliver considerable economic advantages to Swisher County and its neighboring areas. During its construction phase, the project created over 300 jobs and is projected to generate vital tax revenues for essential public services, including $61 million for the Tulia Independent School District, $25 million for the county, and $12 million for the Swisher Memorial Hospital District.
